Filmocracy shut down as a standalone website at the end of May. It’s already back, IndieWire has learned exclusively, as a part of Entertainment Oxygen’s streaming platform eoFlix.
Filmocracy, a digital platform that hosts virtual film festivals, was around for six years before it shuttered. In closing the gates, its CEO Paul Jun called the film world “a cut-throat industry that is fractured and isolating.”
Well, Jun is no longer involved, so it sounds like he was right. Jun had a plan for Filmocracy to add an equity crowdfunding model for films a la Kickstarter (or perhaps more appropriately here, Angel Studios), but that plan is dead, we’re told.
Through their merger, eoFlix and Filmocracy will serve more than 400 film festivals worldwide. At least, that’s the plan.
“eoFlix’s innovative technology aligns perfectly with the ever-changing needs of festival organizers around the world who will now be equipped with powerful tools to succeed in both hybrid and fully virtual formats,” Apple TungFong, the CEO of Entertainment Oxygen, said in a statement sent to IndieWire. “eoFlix will revolutionize how festivals will be hosted today and beyond, enhancing both in-person and virtual experiences.”
The eoFlix hub allows filmmakers to easily showcase their work, track realtime viewership analytics, and monetize their films — especially after the festival run ends. Festivals use it to boost virtual screening revenue, expand audience reach through its digital marketing tools, and streamline event management with automated ticketing and scheduling systems.
“Entertainment Oxygen is dedicated to helping its new festival partners to adapt and reach wider audiences as the entertainment landscape rapidly evolves,” she continued. “We welcome Filmocracy’s festival partners to the eoFlix community, and are honored that Filmocracy has put its trust and confidence in our team.”
Those festival partners will receive a complimentary one-year premium subscription to the new platform, which will include “full onboarding support” — register here. After the first year, packages begin at $799 per year; the premium subscription will run you $2,799.
Here’s the eoFlix pitch, in bullet-point form, for Filmocracy’s festival partners:
- Create immersive hybrid events: Seamlessly blend in-person and online experiences to serve diverse audiences.
- Host virtual cinema: Bring the theatrical experience to online viewers with high-quality streaming.
- Engage audiences with interactive features: Host live Q&As, real-time streaming, and audience voting for enhanced participation.
- Access Global Network: eoFlix’s filmmakers community feature not only enhances individual visibility and networking but also cultivates a vibrant ecosystem that supports the growth and success of filmmakers in the industry.
- Monetize events: Generate revenue through ticket sales, sponsorships, premium content, and more.
