Aubrey Plaza Studied Maisy Stella To Play The Older Elliott In The Film
To prepare to play the 39-year-old version of Elliott in My Old Ass, Aubrey Plaza (Megalopolis and Agatha All Along) became a quick study of Maisy Stella when she arrived on set.
“I got to creep out on her,” Plaza jokingly told Elle in in a September interview. “I got to watch videos of her and stuff. One thing about this movie that’s so cool is no one was hung up on the literal part of playing each other. They were one person, but it was more like the energy [was the same]
.
“When we met each other, I definitely was studying her mannerisms and the way she talked, and I would talk to myself and try to talk like her, but I kept that to myself,” added with a laugh.”
Since My Old Ass opened in limited release in theaters on September 13, the film has earned $5.3 million in domestic ticket sales and more than $332,000 internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $5.7 million.
According to Deadline, the R-rated film was acquired for distribution by Amazon MGM at the 2024 Film Festival after its January 20 premiere for $15 million.
Rotten Tomatoes critics collectively gave My Old Ass a 91% “fresh” rating based on 171 reviews, while the films scored an 89% “fresh” Audience Score based on 500-verified user ratings.
The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “A humorous cocktail with a twist of coming-of-age drama, My Old Ass doesn’t throw out the wisdom with the reckless abandon of youth and the effects are hallucinogenic.”
Written and directed by Megan Park and also starring Percy Hynes White and Maddie Ziegler, Kerrice Brooks and Maria Dizzia, My Old Ass—which is rated R—debuts on streaming on Prime Video on Thursday.
