Srinagar, Nov 5: For a change, Jammu and Kashmir government is selling Bollywood dreams to local artists.
The government has embarked on a unique journey to help local artists land roles in the films being shot in Kashmir.
Under Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy 2024, a local talent directory will be available on the government’s Single Window System, providing filmmakers with access to a curated database of actors, crew members, and creative professionals from Jammu and Kashmir. This platform will simplify the process for production houses to identify and cast local talent, streamlining connections between filmmakers and artists.
This development follows an increase in the number of films being shot in Kashmir, a trend encouraged by the government’s ongoing efforts to make the region a hub for filmmaking.
An official source said the government has already started working on the directory by collecting the details of local actors, line producers, makeup artists, and designers.
“A message has gone to the artists who are training or seeking any training in various departments of filmmaking. We are preparing a directory and soon it will be available to the filmmakers who visit Kashmir to shoot and want to cast local talent. It will be available for the directors in Mumbai as well whose story demands actors from J&K,” he said.
Pertinently, to implement the J&K Film Policy-2024, a dedicated J&K Single Window Cell has been constituted under the Chairpersonship of Joint Director Information (HQ).
As per the film policy document, the J&K Single Window Cell will be the single point of contact (SPOC) for supporting the development of a vibrant film ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir and exclusively oversee the implementation of the Jammu & Kashmir Film Policy.
Soon after the unveiling of the maiden Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy 2021, the union territory came into the focus of the filmmakers.
Bollywood and Tollywood shot scores of movies in Jammu and Kashmir out of which many including Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Dunki, Vedaa, Leo, and others became popular hits.
Last year, a total of 102 Bollywood and Tollywood films and web series were granted permission to shoot in Jammu and Kashmir.
