The Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in Nigeria’s general election in 2023, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to his wife, Margaret Brownson, saying he would not consider divorce, even if she were unfaithful.
Obi discussed his personal belief on marriage and loyalty during an appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, hosted by comedian and actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, better known by his stage as Nedu Wazobia.
Obi expressed a lifelong commitment to his spouse even in the event she becomes unfaithful to him.
“As long as I’m alive, she’s my wife. That’s it,” Obi stated emphatically. “I can tell you that. As long as I’m alive, I won’t marry or have anything. She is my wife. That is sealed. Finished.
“Maybe have an affair? It’s her business,” he noted, adding, “Who said two of us had an affair? They’ll say Peter Obi is a very good man who married a woman who is… That’s it.”
As a demonstration of their varied lifestyles, Obi highlighted their varying traveling preferences noting that even when they fly together, they could select different seating classes based on what suits them most.
“You can’t quantify me with the life of my wife or children. No. We have different lifestyles. Even if I’m traveling with my wife, people have seen it. Sometimes we are in the same plane but in different classes.
“She is in business class and I’m in economy. Because that suits her and it doesn’t conflict with my interests,” the statesman concluded.
