As a business consultant for private sector, small and medium-sized businesses, I was keen to hear last week’s Budget.
Unfortunately, it hits business where it hurts, which will indirectly affect everyone. If business owners feel they are being targeted to pay more taxes eating away at their profits, they will either streamline, with fewer staff, close their business or move abroad to trade, like several of my clients have done already. Even the OBR (Office for Budget Responsibility) has stated that last week’s Budget will hardly stimulate any growth to the economy, which is desperately needed! My opinion is that this Government is business illiterate, and borrowing billions just plunges the country into further debt. Remember the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves saying before the election that their plans were fully costed?
