When does the new president take office?
Although the winner may not be officially declared until December, the presidential inauguration takes place on January 20, 2025. On this date, the president-elect will take the oath of office and assume the role, regardless of any potential delays in the vote counting or certification process.
This ensures that, even though the election process may extend beyond November, the transition of power occurs in an orderly fashion, as mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
