Sedona News – The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to HOLD OVER “Small Things Like These”, showing through Nov. 21 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy delivers a stunning performance as devoted father Bill Furlong in “Small Things Like These” — based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Claire Keegan. The film also stars Emily Watson, Michelle Fairley and Eileen Walsh.
In 1985 devoted father Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy) discovers disturbing secrets kept by the local convent and uncovers shocking truths of his own, forcing him to confront his past and the complicit silence of a small Irish town controlled by the Catholic Church.
The film reveals truths about Ireland’s Magdalene laundries — asylums run by Roman Catholic institutions from the 1820s until 1996, ostensibly to reform “fallen young women.”
“Cillian Murphy’s performance could move mountains.” — Tim Robey, The Telegraph
