CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Donald Trump is heading back to the White House after winning the 2024 presidential election, and his return has captivated the world’s attention.
Several foreign leaders weighed in on his re-election, with one calling it “history’s greatest comeback.” Others simply congratulated him and shared hope for friendly relations between their countries and the United States.
Wartime leaders in Israel and Ukraine weigh in
Among the leaders who chimed in following Trump’s electoral victory were Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback!” Netanyahu posted on social media. “Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory!”
According to CBS News, Netanyahu is believed to have favored Trump during the election after facing pressure from current American leadership to reach a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Zelenskyy, on the other hand, is in a war of his own against Russia.
“I recall our great meeting with President Trump back in September, when we discussed in detail the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership, the Victory Plan, and ways to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine,” Zelenskyy wrote online.
“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs,” the Ukrainian president’s post read in part. “This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer. I am hopeful that we will put it into action together. We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership. We rely on continued strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States.”

Zelenskyy said his country is interested in growing a “mutually beneficial political and economic cooperation” with the U.S.
As for Russia, CBS News reported that one key Russian leader said Trump’s victory would offer “a chance for a more constructive approach to the Ukrainian conflict.”
Since Russia first invaded in February 2022, the United States has sent Ukraine more than $64 billion in military assistance, according to an Oct. 21 update from the U.S. Department of State.
Leaders of NATO allies congratulate Trump
Another world leader, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, also expressed a desire to work with Trump.
“Congratulations to Donald Trump on being elected President of the United States,” Trudeau posted. “The friendship between Canada and the U.S. is the envy of the world. I know President Trump and I will work together to create more opportunity, prosperity, and security for both of our nations.”
The newly sworn in Prime Minister of the United Kingdom shared a similar message.
“Congratulations President-elect Trump on your historic election victory,” Keir Starmer said in a news release. “I look forward to working with you in the years ahead. As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise. From growth and security to innovation and tech, I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come.”
French President Emmanuel Macron also offered his sentiments following Trump’s 2024 win.
“Congratulations, President [Donald Trump]. Ready to work together as we did for four years,” he wrote on social media. “With your convictions and mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”
Despite the election being called, foreign leaders will have to wait more than two months before Trump takes office. He will be sworn in as the United States’ 47th commander-in-chief on Jan. 20, 2025. JD Vance will become the country’s 50th vice president.
