Jennifer Lopez showed how to take a compliment gracefully, even one that came from her estranged husband Ben Affleck, who referred to the actress as “spectacular” in their new movie, Unstoppable.
“In front of the camera and behind the scenes as well, Ben Affleck described you as spectacular in your performance,” a reporter told J. Lo, 55, on the red carpet of the film’s London premiere on Tuesday, November 5. “How would you describe his producing,” he asked the actress. Jennifer stars in a supporting role in the movie, which Ben produced before the pair separated in April.
Jennifer didn’t reply directly to the question about Ben, 52, or mention him directly. Instead, she graciously responded, “I would describe all of the cast and everybody behind the scenes as spectacular and wonderful.”
The Air actor similarly praised the cast during his interview with Entertainment Tonight on Sunday, November 3.
“Unstoppable is a very different movie than this, but in a way, it’s similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists. It speaks to a certain kind of thing I guess we’re drawn to. We really believe in the power of storytelling when the people involved in it are deeply connected to the story,” he said of the sports drama inspired by a real-life wrestler born with one leg who becomes a college champion. J. Lo plays the character’s mother in the film.
“Jennifer’s spectacular,” he added, while also being complimentary of her costars, Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle and director William Goldenberg. “We believed in the right people, and Unstoppable is another example of that.”
The former couple has not reunited while promoting the film. Jennfer has been making the rounds on red carpets, including an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival on September 6, which was her first public outing since filing for divorce from Ben on August 20. It fell two years to the date from when the duo married in a lavish wedding at the actor’s Georgia estate.
The “Waiting for Tonight” singer wore the now infamous “disco-ball” dress to TIFF, where she went commando in a gown featuring open sides tied together with black bows. The front and back of the frock were covered in small shiny mirrored panels. Some fans referred to it as Jen’s “revenge dress,” to show how great she was doing in her new single life.
Jennifer was more subdued yet still stunning at her appearance in London. She wore a sleeveless white turtleneck dress with a fuzzy white coat that matched. The former American Idol judge had her hair pulled back with strands softly lining her face and a neutral palette of makeup.
The Atlas star revealed how she’ll be spending the holidays amid her divorce form Ben, while referencing the difficult year she endured during her very public estrangement from the Gone Girl star, as they lived apart for months before Jen finally filed for divorce.
“It was a pretty intense year for me and I’m most looking forward to spending time with my kids and my family coming out from the East Coast,” J. Lo told People in an interview published on Wednesday, November 6.
“The holidays are such a special time for us, and they’ve always been since I was a little girl. And I really look forward to those moments when I can be with my sisters and just relax and have fun and create new memories,” the Maid in Manhattan star continued.
She’ll be hosting loved ones including her mom, Guadalupe Rodríguez, younger sisters Lynda and Leslie, and J. Lo’s twins, Max and Emme, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
Jennifer is still living in the $60 million marital mansion she purchased with Ben in May 2023. The former couple publicly listed it for sale at $68 million in July after trying to privately sell it, but it has yet to find a new buyer. In Touch exclusively reported in May that Ben had moved out of the mansion and into a rental home. In July, he closed escrow on a $20 million bachelor pad.
