Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Hun Manet, received a courtesy call from Wang Yubo, Governor of China’s Yunnan province, upon his arrival in Kunming, Yunnan, yesterday for a series of summits on Nov. 6-7.
On the occasion of the meeting, the Governor of Yunnan Province warmly welcomed the premier to attend the GMS meeting in Kunming on this occasion and expressed his pleasure to meet with the premier again after meeting with him on the occasion of the official inauguration of the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport at the end of 2023.
He also informed the premier about the development and potential of Yunnan Province.
The governor noted that the cooperation between Yunnan and Cambodia has progressed, especially through exchange of trade visits and people-to-people exchanges.
In response, the Prime Minister thanked the Governor for the warm welcome and expressed his eagerness to meet the Governor again. He also praised the growth and development of Yunnan Province, which is an engine for China’s economy.
Dr. Hun Manet praised the steady development of Cambodia-China relations, while China has played an important role in contributing to Cambodia’s socio-economic development. The premier highlighted the potential for future cooperation between Cambodia and Yunnan Province in many fields.
Premier Hun Manet encouraged the cooperation team between the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and the Yunnan Provincial Department of Foreign Affairs to meet soon to strengthen further and expand cooperation.
The Prime Minister and the Provincial Governor exchanged views on further enhancing cooperation in a number of key areas, including trade, investment, industry, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, education and training, as well as tourism.
The provincial governor promised to examine the possibility of providing more scholarships to Cambodian students to study in Yunnan and continue to encourage Chinese people to travel to Cambodia with a variety of tourist destinations.
