The Region of Ionian Islands presented its dual tourism strategy at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2024 in London.
While at the exhibition, Governor Giannis Trepeklis highlighted the region’s focus on maintaining strong connections with traditional markets, such as the UK and Italy, while also targeting emerging markets like the United States and China.
He also highlighted upcoming initiatives, including participation in the International Tourism Fair “New York Travel Show” in Manhattan in January 2025 to attract new audiences.
Growing global reach and new initiatives
Trepeklis noted that expatriates from the Ionian Islands will play a key role in supporting these efforts.
Additionally, promotional activities are underway in major European capitals, including London, alongside the launch of “Ionian Weeks”—a series of events designed to showcase the region’s offerings.
Infrastructure upgrades and government collaboration
While optimistic about the growing interest, Trepeklis stressed the need for public infrastructure improvements, requiring collaboration between central and local governments.
Promoting the Ionian Islands at WTM 2024
At WTM London 2024, Trepeklis affirmed that the Ionian Islands offer safe, high-quality services.
With 180 countries represented at the fair, he underlined the importance of standing out in the face of intense competition by promoting the region’s natural beauty and cultural wealth.
The Ionian Islands are showcasing their offerings at this year’s WTM London expo with an independent stand, following the successful approach taken at the ITB fair in Berlin earlier this year.
WTM London 2024 continues until Thursday, November 7.
