MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A Madison non-profit is giving back to children this holiday season by donating books. The Madison Reading Project launched its fifth annual community book drive.
Their goal is to raise $110,000 and provide 20,000 new books to more than 12,000 children before winter break.
“We believe it is important for children to have access to new books that reflect their unique identities as well as open their eyes to others’ lived experiences,” said Co-Executive Director Rowan Childs. “By supporting our Community Book Drive, you will help get thousands of new, high-quality books to kids, many of whom have few books in their homes. Children deserve that new book feeling, and books in the home are very important.”
Anyone interested in donating is encouraged to look for book collection bins at area businesses and shopping malls.
Books can also be purchased online and then donated directly to Madison Reading Project.
The non-profit is also celebrating 10 years of service, as they have worked with hundreds of different partners to bring resources and free books to children.
The community book drive ends on December 6.
