WIPO to release new edition of the “Green Technology Book” at COP29 on November 19, 2024, from 10.15-11.45h CET (13.15-14.45h Azerbaijan Time). The new book focuses on energy technologies.
The current adoption rate of renewable energy and related technologies remains insufficient to meet global climate targets. This challenge is compounded by the increasing impact of climate change on energy systems and infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for adaptive and innovative solutions.
In collaboration with the United Nations Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) and the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ARST), this edition showcases technology solutions for accelerating the deployment and scaling of clean energy and energy efficiency technologies.
Adopting an end-user perspective, this year’s book focuses on practical technologies for energy use in cities, rural and agricultural areas, as well as service sectors such as healthcare facilities, supermarkets, and data centers. It also seeks to bridge the gap between the critical need for energy technology solutions and their practical implementation across developed as well as developing countries.
Energy technology solutions
The book will present a comprehensive set of solutions, all connected to the WIPO GREEN Database of Needs and Green Technologies. The database showcases a wider array of solutions and facilitates direct contact with technology proprietors. Additionally, the Green Technology Book serves as an important matchmaking tool for fostering connections and partnerships in the field.
Previous editions of the Green Technology Books focused on climate mitigation and adaptation, released at previous UN Climate Change COP meetings. The Green Technology Books are “living publications” building on the work of the WIPO GREEN platform, which connects green technology providers from around the world with people seeking environmentally friendly solutions.
