American YouTube star Johnny Somali made his name on social media due to his “disruptive” and “offensive” content in South Korea.
But according to reports, the 24 year old content creator, whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael, has been told by officials he is not allowed to leave the East Asian country over alleged drug offences. The Korean Herald is reporting that a travel ban has been imposed on the content creator, who first arrived in South Korea in September, while an investigation into the allegation takes place.
The news outlet claims authorities received information on an emergency hotline which accused the YouTuber of taking drugs – and police started their investigations. And Korean law firm Lee & Lee said that if Ramsey is found guilty of the alleged offence he could face 10 years in a Korean prison or a fine of up to 100 million Won, which is $95,000.
The controversial star has not only become a talking point on social media but it looks as though his antics also reached the Korean parliament last month, following a slew of videos of him causing mayhem, in the streets of South Korea.

According to reports, one parliament member asked if Ramsey would face legal ramifications for his actions in the name of content, which include him “disrespecting a memorial statue” and pouring noodle soup on the floor of a shop. He has also been filmed kissing the Statue of Peace, which is a memorial honouring Korean comfort women, who were forced into becoming sex slaves by the Japanese army during World War II.
The following week the Korea JoonngAng Daily claimed that he poured baby oil on the statue and suggested he would perform “lewd” acts on it for the purposes of his online content. The parliament chairman reportedly said: “We are monitoring Johnny Somali.”
This comes after he was allegedly taken into custody for his own sake last month after a live stream showed him being attacked by someone. The alleged attacker, who wore a mask is believed to be a rival YouTube star from Japan. Ramsey is overheard saying: “Americans have way more freedom here. These n****s protecting us, we in the back of a police car. Come and get us! Come get us!”
The recent attack is the third time he had been assaulted following two attacks in Seoul on separate occasions. A Dexerto report claimed that Ramsey had been charged on two counts of assault and drug use – a claim the social media star has strongly denied.
He said at the time: “I was never charged with assaulting anyone, this is a warning to remove this post and article or I will pursue legal action. Police stated that he is still in South Korea despite a post showing him at Incheon International Airport, earlier this week. And his YouTube channel now appears to have been taken down.
