BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Republican United States Senator, Shelley Moore Capito paid a visit to Raleigh County on Thursday where she commented on the recent victory of Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential Election.
The senator was in town for a ribbon cutting ceremony presenting the PATTERN Textile Training & Manufacturing Center in Beckley. Following the ceremony, she was asked about her thoughts on the election results, of which she expressed hope for the future.
“I’m pretty happy today, I’m going to say that! I think it was an overwhelming re-election for President Trump. I’m glad that, with the numbers as big as [they were]…it takes it out of any kind of questions about the results,” said Senator Shelley Moore Capito, noting that the state of the American economy was likely to have played no small role in the decision of many who made their voices heard at the polls on Tuesday.
“Quite honestly, I think people voted with their pocketbooks. The question was, ‘were you better off four years ago than you are now?’ Going to the grocery store myself and watching other families go to the grocery store, the bottom line on your groceries and your food bill has a lot to do with why people said, ‘I can’t keep doing this.’ President Trump said what he’s going to do… he’s going to do tax reform, regulatory reform; He’s done it before. The economy was growing and then we got COVID. But I’m excited about it!”
Results indicate that Donald Trump secured 50.9% of the vote while Vice President Kamala Harris secured 47.6%. Green Party and Independent Party candidates Jill Stein and Robert Kennedy Jr. each secured .4% of the vote, respectively.
