Amarillo Loses Another Business Shortly After Opening

As we are getting closer to celebrating the holidays in Amarillo another business shuts its doors. This year has not been good as we have seen several restaurants and businesses close down.

This recent closure was not expected at all since it was just earlier in the year that it opened. It was one that did bring some excitement when we heard they were opening back up.

The movie theater in Westgate Mall closed several years ago. Since then there was no longer that place to watch cheap movies. That is what we loved about that theater. Then it was gone.

Once we got wind that they were opening up as a Scene One Movie Theater we were excited. This was to be the first Scene One in Texas. Their other locations, according to their website are in Colorado, New York, and New Jersey.

Today that all changed when according to Scott Jentsch at The Big Cinema Guide:

The Scene One Westgate Mall Cinemas in Amarillo, Texas has closed. It last day of operation appears to have been November 5, 2024, which is less than eight months after it opened in March of this year.

It took a while for them to open but they finally opened eight months ago. Eight months and now they are closed. They just wrapped up a special for Halloween with free movies and popcorn. Now they are closed.

I reached out to several people for confirmation and as of now, I haven’t heard back from anyone. There is a sign stating they won’t open today. Not sure how long that has been there. Our Amarillo location was removed from the company website. The phone number when called gave an error message. So it looks like the information I got was correct.

Scene One inside Westgate Mall is closed after just eight months. It’s sad to see another business fail in a year when we got excited about Tascosa Drive-In reopening. For now, the options for going to see a movie are limited to Tascosa Drive-In, Cinergy Entertainment, and Cinemark Hollywood 16.
