Miami football is riding higher than it has in decades. Will Georgia Tech trip the Hurricanes up again?
No. 4 Miami (9-0, 5-0 in ACC) claimed the No. 3 seed in the first College Football Playoff rankings. Quarterback Cam Ward had his second five-touchdown game and his third 400-yard game of the season in last week’s 53-31 win over Duke, while Xavier Restrepo climbed atop the UM record books with a 146-yard, three-TD day. That game was closer than it looks, though, as the Hurricanes had to rally from 11 points down in the third quarter.
Georgia Tech (5-4, 3-3) comes in off a bye week after losing two straight games. The last time the Yellow Jackets played the ‘Canes, Mario Cristobal made lowlight reels by deciding to run out the clock instead of kneeling, leading to a fumble and a last-second game-winning 44-yard touchdown pass from Haynes King to Christian Leary. King might miss Saturday’s rematch, though, as a shoulder injury has left the quarterback out the past two games. Zach Pyron and Aaron Philo split time in Georgia Tech’s most recent game, a 21-6 loss at Virginia Tech.
Will the Hurricanes get to 10-0? Here’s what college football experts predict will happen, plus odds for the game:
James Fragoza writes: “Of course, facing a Miami defense tied for 11th in sacks per game (3.00) in your return from injury isn’t ideal. Opposing teams have needed to air it out to keep pace with Cam Ward and Co., as the ‘Canes rank eighth in run defense (95.2 YPG). Can King’s shoulder hold up? I wouldn’t bet my hard-earned money on it. Thus, take Miami to win and cover with the total going under, especially if Georgia Tech trots out a combination of Zach Pyron and Aaron Philo at QB.”
Shane Mickle writes: “Haynes King is back for Georgia Tech but it’s not enough to save them. Miami will probably play with fire again in the first half, but in the second half their offense is going to have no issue pulling away. Miami’s offense is going to get another big game from Cam Ward and that is going to be enough for them get the job done. This game will be a comfortable victory for Miami. Back the Hurricanes against the spread here.”

Jake Faigus writes: “Miami is the better team in this game, and they should win and cover on the road. This will be close at the start of the game, but the Hurricanes are more talented and should eventually pull away and cover on the road. The Hurricanes should cover this game, march on, and hang onto their lead atop the ACC.”
David Anicetti writes: “Miami has one of the nation’s most explosive offenses and will be nearly impossible for Georgia Tech to stop. Georgia Tech allows 22.4 points per game but faces a Miami passing game that is 2nd best in yards at over 360 per game and an offense that scores more than 46 points per game. Georgia Tech has covered the number in just one of its last four overall.”
