The inaugural International Business Conference (IBC), held at the Guyana Marriott Hotel, has been hailed a success following a highly productive series of business meetings and positive feedback from attendees.
Dr. Vishnu Doerga, Chairman of ActionInvest Caribbean Inc. and the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce, shared that the conference had far exceeded initial expectations, with over 1000 business-to-business meetings held, well beyond the targeted 500. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were also signed during the event.
Dr. Doerga expressed satisfaction with the progress made, noting that the conference’s extended time allowed for even more engagements, with hopes that at least 1% of the meetings would convert into significant business deals.
Four major announcements in sectors like infrastructure, education, insurance, and more were made, and two additional announcements were expected.
Attended by over 600 delegates, with an equal split between international and local companies, the event was praised for its excellent organization and prompt scheduling.
Dr. Doerga emphasized the importance of such high-level events in helping Guyana solidify its position as a growing business hub, urging other event organizers in the country to elevate their standards to provide world-class experiences.
The next IBC is scheduled for February 2025 in Paramaribo, Suriname, where further opportunities—especially in oil and gas—will be explored. Dr. Doerga highlighted the potential for Guyanese companies to partner with Surinamese businesses to expand their reach regionally.
The IBC was organized by ActionInvest Caribbean and hosted by the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce, with support from the GMSA, GoInvest, and the Suriname Investment and Trade Agency.
