The Business Council welcomes the New South Wales Government’s new Housing Delivery Authority, which will get homes built quicker and help address the national housing supply shortage.
Business Council Chief Executive Bran Black said the BCA called for drastic action to boost housing supply and a new authority would help unlock larger projects.
“We are facing a housing supply crisis and the NSW Government’s decision to streamline approvals and act on rezoning is a massive step in the right direction,” Mr Black said.
“State governments are better placed than councils to deliver larger housing projects that are needed to meet demand and make homes more affordable.”
The Business Council in October released the Its time to say yes to housing report, which outlined 29 recommendations that would unlock new supply.
These included changes to planning approvals, zoning, better coordination and a bigger role for state governments to play for projects of significance.
“A rezoning process for big projects, and fast-tracking sites for new residences, will bring more homes online, quicker – improving housing outcomes for NSW residents” Mr Black said.
“A more efficient Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure led process will provide more certainty for home builders wanting to invest in the market.”
