Concerns Over Etosha’s Roads and Our Tourism Future

I am reaching out to share a concern I believe touches all of us who care deeply about Namibia’s reputation as a world-class travel destination.

As many travellers, locals, and tour operators have noted recently on social media, the road conditions in Etosha National Park have become increasingly challenging.

Unfortunately, the negative experiences shared online paint a discouraging picture of what should be one of our most cherished national treasures.

Etosha National Park has long been a symbol of Namibia’s natural beauty and wildlife heritage, drawing visitors from all over the world. However, the current state of the roads is starting to drive people away.

Tour operators – those who help make Namibia accessible to visitors – are hesitant to bring guests to Etosha, fearing damage to their vehicles and an uncomfortable experience for travellers.

This doesn’t affect a single park only; it impacts the livelihoods of those working in tourism across the country – from tour guides and lodge owners to restaurant staff and local artisans.

We all know Namibia competes with other beautiful African destinations, such as Kenya, for international visitors.

If the Etosha experience suffers, we risk losing tourists to these places, affecting our economy and the positive publicity Namibia thrives on.

For the sake of our country’s tourism future, it is essential that we address these road conditions to ensure Etosha remains a highlight for all who visit Namibia.

By working together to protect Etosha’s accessibility and reputation, we can ensure that Namibia remains a welcoming and unforgettable destination for generations to come.
