Netflix subscribers have been encouraged to watch what’s being hailed as ‘Ben Affleck’s best movie’, The Accountant, which is currently streaming on the platform. The film, originally released in 2016, is set to have an unexpected sequel in 2025.
In the movie, Affleck portrays Christian Wolff, an accountant with autism. His character’s father, rejecting his mother’s plea to send him to a neuroscientific treatment centre, instead uses his military background to train Christian and his brother in martial arts and weaponry.
As an adult, Christian becomes a forensic accountant who assists illicit organisations in cleaning up their financial records and ‘uncooking’ their books.
When the FBI begins to suspect him, he takes on a cutting-edge robotics company as a legitimate client. As Wolff uncovers the truth about a multi-million dollar discrepancy, the death toll begins to climb. The film also stars Anna Kendrick, J. K, Simmons, and Jon Bernthal.

Talk of a sequel first surfaced in 2017, but as time went on, it seemed to slip from fans’ memories. There has even been speculation about a third instalment, with filming for the sequel only commencing in March of last year, reports the Daily Record.
Film buffs are rallying behind Ben Affleck, encouraging latecomers to watch what some consider his standout performance in the original movie. A fan on Rotten Tomatoes raved: “Without a doubt Ben Affleck’s best movie. Seen this numerous times and enjoy it each time. Stoked to here the sequel is in the works.”
Another shared their mixed review: “The Accountant is an insane thriller, which is sadly messy and has plenty of tone issues, but those are probably my only complaints of this. This is a great story with a great cast and some banging action, and the twists in this were great as well.”

Contrasting the film’s initial critical reviews with the subsequent audience approval, one viewer remarked: “I’m with the audience on this one, The Accountant is an excellent, fast moving movie. I could perhaps say its Ben Affleck ‘s best performance to date. Well worth two hours of your time.”
With news that The Accountant 2 will soon hit theatres carrying an R rating for intense action, some fans couldn’t contain their excitement.
A comment left on social media read: “The accountant is still one of the best movies ever created. I can only hope accountant 2 is half as good”, while another film fan confessed: “I didn’t know until now there will be Accountant 2, but I will watch it for sure. The 1st was a banger!”
