FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) – Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley called for a special Flint City Council meeting to be held on Monday, Nov. 18, so council members can address essential matters that are currently in limbo.
The city of Flint said the meeting will be held at Flint City Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
“The Flint City Council has failed to take action on essential city business matters for several weeks,” said Clyde Edwards, Flint City Administrator. “This inaction is neglectful to their duties and could soon cause the city financial hardship and put residents’ safety, and important city services, at risk. We need the Council to address these matters to keep the city moving forward. The residents of Flint deserve better.”
Flint Police Chief Terence Green said there are new security measures for city council meetings after a fight broke out at a meeting in October.
Neeley said council members can be confident that they can do their jobs without fearing for their safety.
Flint City Council violated the city’s charter at the end of October when it failed to appoint an interim 3rd Ward council member within 30 days of the death of Councilman Quincy Murphy.
