Leading business bosses from across the Highlands are set to serve ‘time’ today to raise funds for cancer support charity Maggie’s and have shared their reasons for taking part in this unique fundraising initiative.
The Jail or Bail event will see participants ‘locked up’ for a range of ‘crimes’ including “smelly lunches” and “moonlighting for the competition”, until they have raised enough money to be released.
All the fundraising ‘inmates’ will be ‘locked up’ at a secret location where they will be placed ‘behind bars, have mug shots taken and face a judge to have their ‘bail’ set which will vary depending on the crime.
Here’s who is taking part and their reasons for participating:
Yvonne Crook
“I am delighted to support the brilliant Maggie’s team as they bring Jail or Bail to Inverness. Such a fun idea raising funds for such a valuable cause in our community. I know from friends and family that the brilliant service Maggies give to our community is much needed and I am delighted to be able to add my support in this fun way. Fingers crossed I will raise enough for bail!”
Jeremy Matte
“It’s been my pleasure to get to know the Maggie’s Highlands team over the past 10 plus years in my role at Cabot Highlands and our annual Maggie’s Golf Day. Seeing and hearing the remarkable work that our local Maggie’s centre does for the community first hand can really only make you want to help where you can.
“The opportunity to be a part of Jail or Bail sounded like good fun, really looking forward to having a laugh and raising vital funds for Maggie’s!”
Ian MacDonald
“We are all affected by cancer in one way or another, be it ourselves, our family or our friends and Maggie’s provide fantastic support helping people to take back control when cancer turns life upside down.
“The number of people being diagnosed with cancer is rising and more people are surviving cancer than ever before. This means the nature of cancer care itself needs to adapt and evolve to meet the rapidly changing needs of people living with cancer and in my view Maggie’s Highlands desperately needs as much financial support as it can possibly get in order to sustain the brilliant support they currently provide to anybody who needs it.”
Abbie McCahill
“The work that Maggie’s do in the Highlands is so invaluable to our community. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the Centre at Raigmore by invitation and have found the work the team do and the compassion with which they deliver their services to be very compelling. I was delighted with the opportunity to take part in such an innovative fundraising idea.”
Iain Sutherland
“I have to choose to participate in Maggie’s Highlands Jail or Bail event to show my commitment to a cause close to the hearts of many at Norscot. As Norscot’s Charity of the Year, Maggie’s Highlands provides essential support to those affected by cancer – a reality that touches more lives than many might realise.
“By participating in this unique event, he hopes to raise funds and awareness for this invaluable local charity, highlighting the importance of community support for individuals and families facing cancer and the meaningful impact that Maggie’s makes throughout the Highlands.”
Andrew Still
“The lives of everyone will be affected by cancer, Maggie’s is a fantastic charity and I wanted
to do my part to raise awareness of the charity and help raise much needed funds. Secondly, I love the ‘Jail or Bail’ concept and imagine it will be great fun to take part in.
Marc Gardiner
“I’m thrilled to take part in Maggie’s Highlands’ Jail or Bail event! While I’ve supported Maggie’s through my work, this will be my first personal fundraising effort, and I’m excited to make a direct impact. Maggie’s provides invaluable support to those facing cancer, and it’s an honour to contribute to such a meaningful local cause.
“The event’s unique format makes it even more exciting, and I can’t wait to raise awareness and funds in a fun, engaging way. It’s a chance to give back to a community that has given so much, and I’m ready to make a difference.”
Annabelle Gauntlett
“I want to take part in this event because I have personally seen how cancer can affect an individual and their loved ones. One of my friends endured cervical cancer and she has been an absolute warrior throughout, she’s always smiling, keeping positive and kicking cancer’s butt!
“The work Maggie’s does is phenomenal, and I know how fundamental their services are to so many people across the Highlands which is another reason why I want to take part as without critical funding then this amazing facility wouldn’t be available for people like my friend.
“It’s a place of acceptance, understanding and a safe place for those going through the unimaginable.”
