While everyone enjoys rewatching the classics during the festive season, there is always room for a new favorite thanks to the endless catalog of streaming services.
Netflix has added a number of exciting new movies this year, debuting some Christmas movies that offer a modern take on the genre. The world’s largest streaming service has dozens of Christmas movies to choose from, with cult-classics like Love Actually, and classics like That Christmas – an animated delight from the same creator as Love Actually.
Netflix has created the perfect lineup for a cosy day of binge-watching Christmas movies. If you are planning a marathon, you may want to consider some of the movies listed below.
Single All The Way
Desperate to avoid his family’s judgment about his single status, Peter convinces his best friend Nick to join him for the holidays and pretend that they’re now in a relationship. The film has an impressive 70% score on Rotten Tomatoes and viewers said the characters were hilarious – particularly Legally Blonde star, Jennifer Coolidge.
Meet Me Next Christmas
This film just dropped last week, and follows Christina Milian and Devale Ellis on an adventure through the Big Apple in pursuit of some very important Pentatonix concert tickets.
Our Little Secret
Starring the queen of Netflix rom-coms Lindsay Lohan, this movie has gotten a lot of attention. Set for release on November 27, Lohan visits her new boyfriend’s family for the holidays, and has an awkward run-in with an ex – who happens to be dating her boyfriend’s sister.
A Bad Moms Christmas
This film was shot in 2017 but is a recent addition to Netflix. It is a festive spin off of the 2016 movie Bad Moms, starring Kathryn Hahn, Kristen Bell, and Mila Kunis. The hilarious and somewhat vulgar comedy focuses on the stress of the festive season – exacerbated by the arrival of their mothers for the holidays.
That Christmas
This movie has also gained a lot of attention prior to its release. That Christmas is an animated film reminiscent of some of the classic children’s Christmas movies like Arthur Christmas, and comes from the same creator that gave us British classics like Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Notting Hill. The movie will be available on Netflix December 4, just in time to fall in love with it before Christmas.
Hot Frosty
This unique spin on the classic Frosty the Snowman movie is the peak of Hallmark rom coms, according to viewers. A newly widowed woman from a small town falls in love with a snowman who has come to life. The hot snowman is played by Dustin Milligan from Schitt’s Creek.
The Princess Switch
Vanessa Hudgens plays a pair of doppelgängers in this movie of mistaken identity and royal romance. The Netflix original follows the Hallmark handbook, as a duchess switches places with a baker from Chicago, after they each fall in love with each other’s beaus one week before Christmas.
The Merry Gentlemen
This movie, set to drop on December 1, follows a professional dancer who returns to her small town to save her local performing arts center. Chad Michael Murray, known for his roles in One Tree Hill and A Cinderella Story, plays Luke – a local heartthrob who helps organize the showcase and naturally, sweeps her off her feet.
