This Saturday, the awards for the best literary works were presented at the 27th edition of the Tirana Book Fair held at the Palace of Congresses. Enkel Demi, who writes under the pen name Tom Kuka, won the prestigious title of “Author of the Year 2024” for his novel “I Rënë nga Qielli” (Fallen from the Sky).
Demi was awarded with the motivation: “For the masterful stylistic and source-based treatment of a sharp theme concerning the Albanian transition, but equally on a global level, such as the human struggle to make a meaningful life in the context of collective absurdity.”
Milena Selimi won the prize for the best translation of the year with her work “Kohëstrehim” (Time Shelter).
Anastas Angjeli was honored with the award for the best study in economic sciences.
Vjola Sula received the award for the best scholarly work.
The traditional award for the best translation into French went to Lindita Gjetani for her translation of “Mirupafshim Atje Lart” (Goodbye Up There).
The fair, organized by the Albanian Publishers Association and the National Center for Books and Reading, opened on November 13 and will run until November 17, featuring 90 publishers not only from Albania but also from other Albanian-speaking regions.
This year’s fair motto is:”To read means: to live, to discover, to grow.”
