UK tourists and holidaymakers have been warned over a red alert being issued in Costa Rica. The CNE (National Commission of Emergencies) has declared a Red Alert (very heavy rainfall/imminent danger) for the entire Pacific region.
It has also issued an an Orange Alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall/high risk) for Northern Central Valley and Northern Caribbean regions, and a Yellow Alert (moderate rainfall/moderate risk) for the Southern Caribbean region following over 1,000 mm (40 inches) of rain in some locations, with additional heavy rainfall forecasted through November 18.
The Foreign Office warned: “Heavy rainfall in Costa Rica. Costa Rica’s Emergency Services (CNE) declared a Red Alert (very heavy rainfall) for the entire Pacific Region. They have also declared Orange Alert (heavy rainfall) for the Northern Central Valley and Northern Caribbean regions and Yellow Alert (moderate rainfall) for the Southern Caribbean region.

“These conditions are expected to remain through to 18 November. Flooding and landslides may occur, affecting roads throughout Costa Rica. Please avoid unnecessary travel and remain updated on local weather conditions, while following local authorities’ advice.”
It added: “No travel can be guaranteed safe. Read all the advice in this guide.
