Nearly 300,000 national and international tourists visited Siem Reap during the two-day Water Festival, participating in various events, including boat races and the Ak Ambok festival.
A report from the Siem Reap Province Tourism Department reveals that 278,982 visitors attended the festivities, which took place from November 14 to 15. This marks a 13.01% increase compared to the same period in 2023, which saw 246,867 attendees. Among the visitors, 8,982 were international tourists, reflecting a 30.80% rise from last year’s 6,867. Meanwhile, domestic tourists reached around 270,000, an increase of 12.50% compared to 240,000 in 2023.
The report highlights that on the second day of the festival, nearly 200,000 people attended, showing a 15.36% increase over the previous year’s attendance of about 170,000.
Ly Samrith, Chairman of the Siem Reap Provincial Council, presided over the closing ceremony. He noted the significant rise in national and international tourist attendance and praised the festival’s smooth operation. He commended the effective management of security and public order, with no incidents of traffic accidents, violence, or theft reported.
Additionally, the environmental situation showed notable improvement, with reduced waste dumping in public areas and along the Siem Reap River compared to previous years.
