On Saturday, 45 Cairo International Film Festival hosted a talk with iconic director Youssry Nasrallah, the 45 CIFF Golden Pyramid Award For Life Achievement honoree.
During the event, Nasrallah revealed several secrets about his films, especially the earliest ones. He recalled his experience with the legendary Youssef Chahin during the shooting of “Al Maseer”, and how the tips and the atmosphere of Chahin’s work elevated his skills and awakened him to believe in the limitless talents of the actors.
He said: “I don’t believe in limits for actors.”
Nasrallah also paid a sweet tribute to the late DOP Samir Bahzan who was an essential part of his team, especially with his exceptional sense of art, revealing the memories of one of the shots of “Sariqat Saifeya” when Bahzan asked Nasrallah to re-shot the scene, and he was right as the performance was away better than the previous one.
Furthermore, Nasrallah said that he is passionate about the feelings and the daily life of the common people, and he is eager to move these honest and true feelings to the big screen.
He asserted that “Kitkat” and “Mercedes” are realistic films, however, people classified “Kitkat” as a real work of realism, despite it was shot in the studio.
The director also asserted that he gives deep care for the story and the characters in any feature.
During the event, Nasrallah referred to the outstanding performance of Basem Samrah in all his films, especially “Al Maa Wal Khodra Wal Wagh Al Hassan.”
On his side, Samrah praised the contribution of Nasrallah, and his efforts with him to be a real star, and learn how to be an actor.
