If you normally travel around the metro area during nighttime hours you may need to adjust your commute this week due to bridge work happening on the Interstate and Marquam bridges.
All northbound lanes of the Interstate Bridge will close 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18 as crews work on maintenance of a support pier.
The Oregon Department of Transportation said the closure will begin at 10 p.m. with all northbound lanes expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. Drivers will be able to exit at Jantzen Beach to avoid the blocked bridge.
The sidewalk on the northbound span will also close, but the sidewalk on the southbound span will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists.
If you’re heading into Vancouver or points north in Washington on Monday night, you will need to detour to Interstate 84 east to Interstate 205 north across the Glenn Jackson Bridge.
Marquam Bridge
Marquam Bridge inspections require lower deck overnight closures that started Sunday, Nov. 17 and will continue 9 p.m.-5 a.m. nightly through Thursday, Nov. 21.
Crews will close the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 as it crosses the Marquam Bridge for routine inspections. The closure also requires some lane restrictions on the connecting ramps to and from Interstate 405.
Southbound drivers should use I-405 southbound to reconnect with I-5 south of the bridge during the overnight hours through Thursday.
A question on whether these projects may be delayed due to expected wet weather was not answered early Monday morning. This post may be updated.
