PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – Pueblo is working to become a more accessible travel destination for people with disabilities.
The city is now one of three locations in Colorado taking part in the Accessible Travel Program. In this program, major attractions like the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk and the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center will go through an extensive audit to make sure they’re compliant and help them recognize areas for improvement.
Big tourist destinations in the city will also be listed on the Wheel the World website, a website providing guides for accessible travel.
Donielle Kitzman, Vice President Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, says about joining this program, “Well certainly tourism for Pueblo County is a very big economic driver and so any way we can continue to enhance and increase visitation just helps to provide local resources for our own residents as well and so we’re excited to increase visitation and increase the economy in Pueblo.”
Kitzman continues saying, “We certainly want Pueblo to be an inclusive destination and be welcoming to all types of tourists and travelers and also for our own residents here locally. So, we’re excited and we feel this program’s important to just bridge the gap between accessibility and you know disability needs for our community and for our visitors.”
