South African Acting Secretary of Defence Dr. Thobekile Gamede and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs Ms. Maureen Farrell co-chaired the 20th Republic of South Africa – United States of America Defense Committee on Nov. 19-20, 2024, in Pretoria, South Africa. The DEFCOM reinforced the shared dedication of the South Africa Department of Defence and South African National Defence Force with the U.S. Department of Defense to enhance bilateral defense cooperation.
The South African and U.S. delegations engaged in comprehensive and open discussions on a range of topics, including policy and strategy, operations, training and development, and acquisition and technology. South Africa and the United States committed to continue dialogue and cooperation, with DEFCOM participants agreeing to hold the next meeting in 2025 in the United States.
