A Russian mouthpiece has told tourists to stay away from a popular holiday spot over missile threats.
Fears of a “missile threat” have spilled into the Mediterranean. A top propagandist for the Kremlin has warned that a British military base in Cyprus could be at risk of a strike.
Tina Kandelaki, a 49-year-old TV presenter and backer of Vladimir Putin, claimed that a base on the island could be in danger from attacks from proxy groups.
The news comes as Ukraine has now been given the green light to srike deeper into Russia with the use of US-supplied ATACMS.
Kandelaki, who has backed Putin’s war in Ukraine since the start, said: “Do you know, friends, where I would strongly advise against going in the next couple of months after the megalomaniac [Volodymyr] Zelensky was given permission to fire American, British and French missiles at Russian territory?
“For example, to Cyprus, especially to the Akrotiri and Dheleki areas, where British military bases are located.
“It is just over a couple of hundred kilometres [miles] from Syria and Lebanon to Cyprus, and various armed groups in these countries may well accidentally send their missiles off course and hit British bases.”
The deputy general director of Gazprom-Media Holdings also claimed: “The Emirate of Abu Dhabi may also be unsettled. There are French and American troops at the Al-Dhafra airbase there.
“In 2022, the Houthis struck the base with two ballistic missiles, but they were intercepted. And next time there may be not two, but 22 missiles…I think you get the idea.
“The US and other NATO countries have many military bases around the world, located near hot spots where long-range and high-precision weapons could suddenly appear.
“This is exactly what Vladimir Putin warned about back in June. Didn’t hear it? It’s your own fault,” added the TNT entertainment TV network chief.
