A festive day of holiday shopping, family fun and visiting with friends old and new, await you at the Small Business Saturday Christmas Kickoff in Jourdanton on Nov. 30. The Jourdanton 1909 Association invites everyone to join them for this free community event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The festivities will take place in downtown Jourdanton on Simmons Avenue and Main Street.
The celebration will kick off with the arrival of Santa Claus at 9 a.m., escorted by the Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department. In true Santa style, he will be brought in on a genuine fire truck.
“The kids just love that, with all of the lights and sirens,” said Shannon Chicoine of the Jourdanton 1909 Association. “Santa will be around all day until 3 p.m. for free Santa photos.”
The Jourdanton VFD will cook up yummy breakfast tacos until about 11 a.m. Later, they will switch over to their delicious hamburgers. To satisfy your sweet tooth, be sure to pick up a funnel cake and deep fried Twinkie from JC’z Grill.
The association encourages the public to come on out and support your local fire department, as well as the approximately 50 local vendors they will welcome. Some of this year’s participating vendors include: Jimmy Girl Mobile Boutique, Terry Goose Crafts & Jewelry, Harvest & Hands, T.Lynn Designs, Lavender & Pine, Gant Family Delights, D&W Leal Creations, Don’t Box Me In, Good Day Baking and The Exchange & Co.
“There will be a large variety of items to complete all your holiday shopping. I’m so impressed with our lineup this year and you really can spend all day finding new and creative gifts,” said Chicoine.
Children will have a variety of free kid’s activities to delight in such as the life-size snow globe, bounce house, pony rides and petting zoo. Along with the free hot cocoa and cookie decorating, they will also have the chance to make reindeer food and Christmas cards.
“We will also have the antique wagon returning for rides around the Courthouse and our gift card walk for the kids and us old kids,” Chicoine said.
To help keep you in that Christmas spirit, Bring It Productions will provide DJ services from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The association sends a special thank you and expresses their appreciation for all of their sponsors and support.
“As a small non-profit these events just don’t happen without local sponsorship. Our association can’t bring free community events without the generosity of these sponsors, as we don’t receive any city or county funds,” said Chicoine. “What we do receive from our city and county is the use of the space and volunteers from our city council.”
For the Jourdanton 1909 Association, this event is one that is near and dear to all of their hearts. While the positive feedback they receive from the community and vendors means so much, the encouragement they receive from those who did the work years before at city events is especially touching.
