Ryan Reynolds recently jumped back in front of the camera to reprise his role as Deadpool for a new appearance in the MCU.
While Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine turned into one of 2024’s biggest hits financially and critically, his future under the MCU umbrella is still unclear. The one clear part is that Reynolds is far from done playing the character as the MCU continues to expand around him.
Wade Wilson is expected to make appearances all across the Marvel landscape, showing his fourth-wall-breaking skills in Disney attractions and new animated projects before returning to the MCU. However, according to a recent social media blast, his MCU comeback may not be as far off as some think.
Ryan Reynolds Films Next Deadpool Appearance in the MCU
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds shared a video to his Instagram Stories confirming that he will don the red suit again for a new, undisclosed MCU project.
As Rufus Wainwright’s “Oh What a World” plays over the video, Reynolds is seen wearing his new costume from the MCU’s first Deadpool movie and talking to the camera. However, without sound, fans cannot hear what he is saying.
He then moves the camera to show what appears to be a sleigh on a rooftop, which boasts a dark red color base that fades into white at the bottom.

In October, Reynolds also shared a still photo of him and Blind Al star Leslie Uggams from a Christmas themed set to his Instagram Stories.
It appears to be Blind Al’s apartment filled with Christmas decor, including a statue of Santa Claus, and fans can also see Deadpool 3‘s NSFW Wolverine popcorn bucket on the table in the background.
Important to note is that Marvel Studios has not confirmed any upcoming projects featuring Reynolds as Deadpool in live-action. As of writing, this new entry is a complete secret.
When Will New Ryan Reynolds Deadpool Project Release?
More than likely, the pictures and videos Reynolds shared were taken some time ago for this still-secret project. Considering the clear Christmas/holiday imagery, there is a real chance Reynolds, Uggams, and crew could be preparing this entry for release before the end of 2024.
This is far from the first holiday-themed project in the MCU’s history, as Marvel delivered in Christmas 2022 with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+. The Werewolf by Night special presentation pulled off a similar feat as it celebrated Halloween for the MCU. that same year.
The most shocking part about this project is that Marvel Studios has been completely silent on its existence with no reports on it whatsoever. However, that may not something Marvel sees as an issue in terms of making sure it performs well.
Deadpool & Wolverine recently debuted on Disney+ (complete with collections for both leading characters), and it is already performing exceptionally. It pulled in 19.4 million views worldwide in its first six days, making it the most-streamed live-action film since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in February 2023.
Deadpool is also no stranger to holiday projects, as Reynolds was featured in Once Upon a Deadpool in 2018. This movie saw Wade Wilson hold Fred Savage hostage in the bedroom from The Princess Bride, somewhat recreating that movie as the Merc with a Mouth told Savage the story of a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2.
Additionally, while promoting 2022’s Spirited with The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds revealed that he, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick had written a full-blown Deadpool Christmas movie. He explained that it never got made due to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, but he remained hopeful that it would happen.
The real question moving forward is what this new project is specifically and when it will be both announced and released. It could end up being a version of the Deadpool Christmas movie Reynolds teased in 2022, especially considering that he already went the PG-13 route with Once Upon a Deadpool.
All things considered, however, with Deadpool front and center once more, fans should have no shortage of laughs or smiles this holiday season.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now streaming on Disney+. Ryan Reynolds’ new Deadpool holiday project has not been announced or confirmed by Marvel Studios as of writing.
