Friendly tips on air travel
Six months ago, I wrote tips for making your flight (and more importantly, other passengers’ flights) more comfortable.
As I write this letter on a plane, I am compelled to add to my original list.
- Don’t even get near the boarding lanes until your number is called. You just create congestion.
- Those who take babies on board remind me of the old days when one smoker on the plane made 100 people suffer. Please do your best to keep them from crying the whole trip.
- When boarding, pick up your roller luggage and carry it down the aisle. It is wider than the coach aisle, and you will bang into every other seat until you reach your seat. I mentioned this next tip in my last letter, but it needs repeating because my shoulder hurts from backpacks and purses banging into me as they go down the aisle with little regard for the damage they cause.
- This next one seems obvious but evidently it is not: Please do not carry on a conversation on your cellphone using speaker phone (or watch a movie without ear pods). The rest of the world does not want to hear your conversation or your movie.
- Finally, if you are sitting in a middle or window seat, do not get up upon parking at the gate and try to leave your seat until the aisle seat vacates.
Happy traveling this holiday season.
