In a surprising real-life twist, actor Harish once revealed that Karisma Kapoor, his co-star in the 1991 film Prem Qaidi, saved him from drowning while shooting a scene. The incident occurred during Karisma’s debut film, which portrayed a fictional moment where Harish’s character saves Karisma’s from drowning. However, the reality behind the scenes was the opposite.
Talking to Instant Bollywood earlier this year, Harish recalled the incident, admitting he didn’t know how to swim at the time.

He shared, “In the film, it looks like I am saving Karisma after she dives into the pool, but the truth is that she saved me. While filming the scene, I jumped into the water but started drowning because I couldn’t swim. People on set thought I was joking, but Karisma realized I was in trouble and came to my rescue. I was so panicked that I ended up holding onto her clothes.”
Directed by K. Murali Mohana Rao, Prem Qaidi marked Karisma Kapoor’s entry into Bollywood and featured an ensemble cast including Dalip Tahil, Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Shafi Inamdar, and Bharat Bhushan. The movie, a remake of the 1990 Telugu film Prema Khaidi, followed a classic 90s Bollywood narrative where the hero saves the heroine, a trope turned on its head in real life during the filming of this scene.
This incident not only highlights Karisma’s quick thinking but also showcases her calm demeanor, even during an unexpected crisis.
On the professional front, Karisma Kapoor continues to receive praise for her work. She was last seen in the Netflix mystery thriller Murder Mubarak, directed by Homi Adajania. The film earned appreciation from both critics and audiences for its engaging storyline and performances, proving that Karisma remains a beloved and talented figure in Indian cinema.
