DODOMA: THE government has approved the recruitment of 4,000 business studies teachers to teach secondary school students from Form One to Form Four in response to the introduction of the new curriculum that aims at revolutionising education in the country by strengthening business education for students.
Speaking during the opening of a three-day training for District Quality Assurance Officers in Dodoma on Saturday, the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, said the new teachers will start teaching business studies to students from next year.
“In the education reforms, students are required to study business subjects from Form One to Form Four to ensure they acquire this vital business training.
This is the reason the Head of State has approved the recruitment of these teachers,” said Professor Mkenda.
He added: “Students must start being prepared to make decisions about their future after completing Form Four studies, as they will have learned business skills that will help them in life, even if they fail to continue their studies; they will be able to employ themselves.”
The minister instructed the selected District QualitAssurance Officers to work diligently in overseeing the educational reforms, as they serve as the ministry’s eyes on the ground.
He urged them to focus on the commission of experts from educational institutions working to integrate systems for identifying students from the early education level, technical colleges and universities.

The goal is to have a robust system for tracking all students across the country, ensuring their educational background and current status are well-documented.
Professor Mkenda also directed the officers to focus on primary education reforms that will begin in 2027.
The reforms will involve two groups of students graduating from primary school: Those in the fourth grade will graduate to seventh grade and those in third grade will graduate to sixth grade.
He said after graduation, they will enter Form One, which will offer two streams: An inclusive education stream and a second stream focused on vocational education, where students will learn various trades including sports, music, agriculture, fishing, livestock and other crafts.
Professor Mkenda also instructed the Director of the Ministry’s Quality Assurance Department, Mr Efraim Sembeye, to ensure the distribution of quality assurance officers is balanced according to the size of the regions.
He added that schools with all male teachers should be examined, as there are female students who need support from female teachers.
