The Dune saga has firmly established itself as a titanic force in the cinematic universe, and excitement is mounting as the third instalment, Dune: Messiah, takes shape, continuing to expand this epic franchise.
Set against the backdrop of Frank Herbert’s celebrated science fiction narrative, fans are on tenterhooks for the next chapter.
Acclaimed actor Javier Bardem, who brought Stilgar the paramount chieftain of the Fremen at Sietch Tabr to life in the inaugural films, shared his aspirations to reprise his role with Deadline.
Emphasising his expectations, he declared: “I know that I’m in the book, so I should be in the script. If I’m not, I will be very angry and I will let him know. I will go to Canada.”
Nonetheless, Bardem playfully reassured that any potential disappointment wouldn’t sour his feelings, expressing profound admiration for director Denis Villeneuve: “Seriously though, I totally love him. I adore him. Whatever he wants, and whatever he decides, it will be fine for me.
“Absolutely. He’s one of a kind. He’s an extraordinary human being. Such a loving man, fun, funny as hell, and a real worker.”
Dune: Part One took the box office by storm back in 2021, amassing $407 million on a production budget of $165 million. With Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya spearheading the cast, Dune: Part Two eclipsed its predecessor earlier this year, shattering records with a global revenue of $714.4 million.
A fresh spin-off series named Dune: Prophecy was launched last week (November 17) and the first two episodes have been creating quite a stir among fans, reports the Mirror.
The prequel series, set a staggering 10,000 years prior to the two Dune films, traces the journey of two Harkonnen sisters as they battle forces jeopardising mankind’s future while also laying the groundwork for the legendary sect that will eventually become the Bene Gesserit.
The series boasts an impressive line-up of stars including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin and Faoileann Cunningham.
A release date for Dune: Messiah is yet to be revealed
