Glen Powell isn’t the first star to acknowledge his doppelgängers — but he may be the most excited celeb to date.
Continuing the trend of celebrity look-alike contests in 2024, Powell’s hometown of Austin, Texas, joined in on the fun by inviting dozens of Glen-esque hopefuls to Auditorium Shores on Nov. 24, where Powell 2.0 was chosen from among a crowd of chiseled contenders. Though the Twisters star could not be in attendance — as he is currently filming Edgar Wright‘s Running Man — his mother and aunt helped judge the competition, according to Fox 7 Austin.
As for Powell, he watched it unfold via FaceTime after kicking things off with a video to up the stakes.
“Welcome to the Justin Hartley look-alike contest,” Powell joked in the video, which he sent to the contest organizers in advance. “In all seriousness, I have assembled you here today for an important mission. I want to pull off a heist, and we don’t need masks because we all have the same face. It’s the perfect crime! They can’t get all of us because we are one: a criminal Glenterprise.”
He quipped, “Also, I know it’s November but if no one is shirtless for no reason then this whole thing is a sham and obviously no one is committed to the bit. I wish I could be there in person but right now, I’m shooting overseas,” he continued, then paused. “Or am I? Look to your left, look to your right… I could be anywhere.”
Jokes (mostly) aside, the Top Gun: Maverick actor went on to offer the winner an extra special prize.
“You may know that my parents make a cameo in every movie I make, but today the winner of the Glen Powell look-alike contest wins their parents, or any family member of their choice, a cameo in my next movie,” Powell revealed. “I am completely serious. This is a cash-value prize of $6 billion.”
He then signed off, but not before urging the crowd to “keep Austin weird,” and adding to his clones, “See ya around… every time I look in the mirror.”
In addition to a family member movie cameo, the winner — physician’s assistant Maxwell Braunstein — also received $5, a cowboy hat, free queso from Torchy’s Tacos for a year, and a thumbs up from Mama Powell herself.

“My face hasn’t hurt like this since I was ten and at Disney World,” Braunstein told Fox while flashing his version of the Powell grin. He added that he felt pretty good about his chances from the start, admitting, “I did tell people I was going to win. I did mention that to my friends that sent it to me.”
Elsewhere, one attendee boasted about the city’s excitement for the real Glen Powell, while another indicated that he has usurped Austin’s previous sweetheart, Texas-grown star Matthew McConaughey.
“It’s just such an Austin thing to happen, and we love Glen Powell so we were, like, you know what, let’s go see like who truly thinks they look like Glen Powell,” attendee Stephanie Gallegos told the outlet.
Sarah Campa added, “A lot of people say that he’s like the cutie now of like UT Austin culture, rather than Matthew McConaughey. He’s been replaced. It makes sense that all the girls are here.”
Powell is the latest celeb to be celebrated with a look-alike contest, continuing a trend that began in October when 2,600 people RSVP’d to attend a Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest in New York City. The event itself caused a social media frenzy when the massive crowd was dispersed by cops and subsequently crashed by Chalamet himself, who happened to be filming in the city that very week. Footage of Chalamet meeting fans and coming face-to-face with his own clones swiftly went viral.
In the aftermath, a string of similar events have taken place, including Jeremy Allen White competitions in New York and Chicago, a Dev Patel contest in San Francisco, and a Harry Styles-themed meet-up in London.
