MUSCAT: The Oman-Hong Kong Business and Investment Forum commenced at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), underscoring a significant step forward in bolstering economic ties between the Sultanate of Oman and Hong Kong.
Hosted by OCCI in collaboration with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the forum serves as a platform to explore synergies, investment opportunities, and pathways for mutual economic growth. It brings together influential business leaders, government officials, and industry experts to discuss areas of strategic cooperation and sustainable development.
In their opening remarks, OCCI representatives outlined Oman’s vision for economic diversification, emphasizing the importance of international partnerships in achieving sustainable growth. Addressing the forum, Daniel Lam, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa at HKTDC, highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a gateway to Asian markets and a global trade hub, urging Omani businesses to leverage the opportunities for expansion and investment.
“The partnership between Oman and Hong Kong is marked by robust trade, investment, and cultural exchanges,” Lam said. “Hong Kong’s strategic location, world-class infrastructure, and business-friendly environment make it a prime gateway to the Asia-Pacific region. Similarly, Oman’s strategic position as a crossroads of East and West aligns perfectly with Hong Kong’s global vision.” The forum’s agenda includes keynote speeches, presentations, and Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings aimed at fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration. The event also featured a private meeting between OCCI leadership and the HKTDC delegation, where discussions centered on advancing bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
Oman’s Vision 2040, led by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, aims to diversify the economy and enhance global competitiveness. This aligns with Hong Kong’s expertise in sectors such as logistics, finance, technology, and tourism, creating fertile ground for partnerships that drive innovation and sustainable development.
Cultural ties also took center stage, with speakers emphasizing the role of shared heritage and traditions in strengthening people-to-people connections. These cultural exchanges, they said, provide a solid foundation for deeper economic cooperation.
The forum is expected to yield actionable strategies for collaboration in key sectors, including trade, logistics, technology, and innovation. The programme will conclude with a networking lunch, offering participants the opportunity to forge professional connections and explore future partnerships.
