Bhairathi Ranagal weekend 2 BO collection: Shivarajkumar’s film slows down

It’s Day 12 for the Shivarajkumar-led Mufti prequel, Bhairathi Ranagal at the box office. The Narthan directorial took a decent opening, which, trade trackers estimate in the range of Rs 8.5 cr net in the first weekend. While the first Monday held at Rs 1.65 cr, since then, there’s been a steady decline. The week 1 net collection, as per sacnilk, stood at Rs 13 crore, which, if reports are to be believed is more than half of the film’s budget, which is rumored to be in the vicinity of Rs 20 crore.

The second weekend saw collections pick up albeit slightly, adding another Rs 3 crore to the tally. Rs 16 cr net is what it stands at now, and the film is on course to recover its investment from the theatrical business, what with the Tamil and Telugu versions releasing in theatres on November 29. In Bengaluru, the film still holds the highest show count, but as of November 24, did not register fast-filling/sold-out shows. 

The satellite and digital rights have been sold to Zee Network, so, Shivarajkumar, who is also the producer of the film through his banner Geetha Productions, is ‘safe’, but what’s more important is its hit status from theatrical business. Despite his current health issues, which required extensive treatment protocols, and an impending surgery for which he will leave for the US shortly, Shivarajkumar has been touring key centers for post-release publicity and to meet fans there.

Bhairathi Ranagal, released on November 15, follows how the title character, played by Shivarajkumar came to be a feared crime lord as far as the police go and a savior for the people of Ronapura. It details elements from his childhood, leading into his adult years, that shaped his attachment to the land and its people, which includes personal sacrifices. The film’s star cast includes Rahul Bose, Rukmini Vasanth, Chaya Singh, Madhu Guruswamy, Shabeer Kallarakkal, and Devaraj, among others.
