REDDING, Calif. — In the days following Thanksgiving, holiday shopping will be in full swing, including Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30.
On Market Street in downtown Redding, Kassandra Warner independently owns and operates a local Apricot Lane boutique. The Redding native handpicks all the merchandise, serving women of all ages and sizes. She told the Northstate’s News the community’s interest makes a big impact, especially around the holidays.
“Myself and my team of four, we help style, so if you’re not into shopping, and you just want to look cute and come in on your lunch break, we’re here to style and help put things together for you,” Warner said. “That personal, one-on-one experience is so important that you don’t get online shopping.”
Warner added, “The twist on it is making it community driven, connecting with the community, giving back to the community.”
Program coordinator for Viva Downtown Redding, Blake Fisher, told KRCR Small Business Saturday is an opportunity to support Redding business owners through shopping or going to a local restaurant. Then, people can celebrate Artists Sunday by exploring the work of creatives in the community.
“It puts value into the businesses and the artists that are putting an investment in our local economy,” Fisher said. “They’re doing this for themselves, their friends and families, and the people that live here in Redding should experience that type of benefit instead of going out to a big box store because these are the people that actually care about our city.”
Small Business Saturday is celebrated all day long. In addition, people can look up their favorite downtown businesses for their Black Friday hours.
Fisher added that, aside from the big shopping days this weekend, you can always show support for small businesses in the community all year long.
