CHENANGO (WBNG) — Small business Saturdays are back in Broome County.
Small business Saturdays are a way to promote local businesses and get the word out to shoppers to keep their money in the local economy rather than spending it at corporations.
On Tuesday, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and CEO of the Leadership Alliance, Stacey Duncan held a news conference at Eagle Powersports in Castle Creek stressing the importance of buying local.
Garnar spoke on the importance of keeping money in the local economy.
“These are the businesses that we want to support. And it has been proven, I don’t know the exact numbers but the more you buy local here, the better off for our local economy. Because the local dollars will stay right here in our communities,” said Garnar.
Both Garnar and Duncan mentioned how local business is the “lifeblood” of the community and suggested that during people’s holiday shopping this year, to turn away from corporations and instead buy from local shops.
“We’re encouraging people to specifically buy your presents at small businesses that are right here in Broome County,” said the County Executive. “So, the question is why should we buy from small businesses in Broome County? Because small businesses are the lifeblood of our community. They are the life of our community.”
Each week Garnar will promote a different local business in Broome County as a part of Small Business Saturdays.
