Jakarta (ANTARA) –
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria has said that technology companies from the United States, China, Russia, Japan, and the European Union are keen to invest in Indonesia.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 12th US-Indonesia Investment Summit in Jakarta on Tuesday, he informed that technology company Nvidia, for example, has collaborated with telecommunications company Indosat to develop artificial intelligence technology in Indonesia.
According to Patria, an increase in online gambling practices does not have a direct impact on the interest of foreign investors to invest in digital technology in Indonesia.
“The impact is not direct since this is a social pathology problem. However, online gambling still needs to be eradicated, and we continue to collaborate with technology companies to handle the issue,” he said.
Patria underlined the importance of quality human resources to support the realization of investment in the digital technology sector and accelerate the implementation of digital transformation in Indonesia.
Online gambling is a major threat to Indonesia’s human resources because it can cause addiction, encourage perpetrators to commit crimes, and destroy work ethic, he said.
Therefore, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is continuing to strive to eradicate online gambling practices, he added.
In the period from October 20 to November 22, 2024, the ministry handled 352,719 items of online gambling content on social media platforms and websites.
Overall, from 2017 to November 22, 2024, the government blocked access to 5,232,987 items of online gambling content.
“In addition to the online gambling task force, we continue to collaborate to clean up the ministry, and we continue to wait for new breakthroughs from the police and law enforcement,” Patria said.
