SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Thanksgiving being around the corner means that holiday shopping is following close behind.
First observed in 2010, Small Business Saturday encourages Americans across the country to support their local small businesses.
Officials from the Better Business Bureau noted that shopping locally, whether in person or online, benefits your local economy and overall has a positive impact on your community at large.
“They’re the organizations that support our kid’s sports teams, they donate items and prizes to our auctions and our after-prom events,” explained the vice president of the South Dakota Better Business Bureau, Jessie Schmidt.
Sioux Falls, especially downtown, is home to dozens of retailers and restaurants that your sure to find the perfect holiday gifts while enduring a memorable experience.
“Grab a bit to eat, you can shop your favorite local shops, you can see the lights. You can really make a day out of it and again you’re gonna get pampered by your local small businesses,” said Schmidt.
For example, Schmidt said that many of our local small businesses will offer to wrap your gifts, hold them aside for you, or ship them to you all with the hope of making your overall experience at their business special. Whether in Sioux Falls or in surrounding areas, Schmidt encourages you to shop small this holiday season.
“It’s really an opportunity for us to thank our local retailers we have had a lot of publicity this fall that it’s been tough for a lot of them and if we want our small local businesses to be here next year we need to ensure that we shop there this year,” said Schmidt.
