Mirzapur is one of the most loved series among fans. The crime drama has had three seasons so far and each season is loved by the audience. Now makers have taken a bold step as the Mirzapur is all set to make its cinematic debut with Mirzapur The Film in 2026. The teaser showed key actors like Ali Fazal and Pankaj Tripathi. Most surprisingly, the teaser also showed Divyenndu returning as Munna Bhai who died in the second season. In a new interview, Divyenndu opened up about his much-loved character and shared why he chose to return to the crime drama.
Divyenndu speaks about his Munna Bhai character in Mirzapur
He said that people wanted his character to be back, and now they will have it. Divyenndu also shared that there are some projects that they do for their audience and for someone like him, he called himself a selfish artist.
“I do things for myself and not for anyone else. But Mirzapur is one such project – when I heard about the film… I immediately said yes …my thought was your audience want it ..let’s just give it to them ..they will enjoy it, and will relish it.The script is in the works right now ..whatever little I’ve heard about the film… it is very interesting… I’m sure people will like it,” he said.
Divyenndu on working with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani
Mirzapur The Film marks Divyenndu’s fifth collaboration with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani after Mirzapur 1, 2, Madgaon Express, and Agni.
Sharing his working experience with them, the actor said that they both are lovely people and they work on merit, and that is the best part. He also shared that they don’t work on any preconceived notions about anyone and give respect to artists.
“They respect your voice, and they are very democratic, it’s not like there is some big boss sitting in the studio… we have a very friendly vibe with each other, but have a lot of respect for each other too,” Divyenndu said.
Mirzapur The Film teaser
In October, Amazon Prime Video announced that Mirzapur The Film will be having a theatrical release in 2026. In the promotional video, Divyenndu aka Munna Tripathi confirmed his comeback in the Mirzapur world and said that he is ‘immortal’. Abhishek Banerjee along with Ali and Pankaj were also seen in this clip.
While sharing this video, the streaming platform mentioned, “Diwali pe sabko mithai milti hai, lekin yeh lo, Mirzapur ki asli barfi MirzapurTheFilm, coming soon (sic).”
Gurmeet Singh will be directing Mirzapur The Film, while it is being produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. The crime thriller will be created by Puneet Krishna.
