Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar is the goodwill ambassador of the ongoing All Things Living Environmental Film Festival (ALT EFF). While speaking about the same in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, she also looked back at how 2024 has been for her and her family.
EXCLUSIVE: Shriya Pilgaonkar says father Sachin is “film university in himself” with “energy of a newcomer”
“It’s actually been very exciting,” said Shriya. “It’s been a year of hit sequels. The Broken News season 2 got an amazing response, so did Taaza Khabar season 2, which broke records. It’s very rare that season 2 does even better than season one. And my father’s Navra Maza Navsacha 2 also became such a big hit. That was also a sequel. I am really excited for the films I would be doing ahead.”
Navra Maza Navsacha 2 is the sequel to the 2004 Marathi hit Navra Maza Navsacha. Both the films are directed by Shriya’s father Sachin Pilgaonkar, and it starred him and his wife Supriya Pilgaonkar. The second movie also saw the additional casting of Swapnil Joshi in one of the lead roles.
Touching upon more at the film’s success, Shriya said, “I am so happy that at a time when some of the biggest Hindi films were not doing well, a Marathi sequel came, and it did so well. In fact, it brought so many people back to the theatres. It’s a family entertainer. They (her parents) are very happy, grateful and thankful to the audience for giving that film such a response. I did a cameo in it (in a song), so I have been a part of it in my own way. I also helped in the marketing and promotion of the film. So, I am just so proud of my parents, and everyone associated with that film.”
Shriya is amazed to see her parents keeping themselves relevant even after so many decades. “I am so proud of my parents, and I am so inspired,” she said. “It’s my father’s 61st year in the film industry and my mother has also worked. They have reinvented themselves constantly. The way they carry themselves and they have done such different kinds of work and the love they still get from the audience and the energy and passion with which they work has really inspired me.”
Sachin Pilgaonkar is known for sharing old stories and anecdotes, which go viral on social media. When Shriya was asked whether she has grown up hearing such interesting stories from him, she said, “A lot of it. I think when a person has so much experience, you get to know so many stories. He is a film university in himself, going by the knowledge that he has. And yet, he has the energy of a newcomer. I think that is the key to success for any actor, treating every day as a fresh start.”
