The Deadpool star and Rob McElhenney, his fellow Wrexham AFC soccer team co-owner and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor, have added the Wrexham Lager company to their Wrexham portfolio.
Vancouver’s Reynolds had previously owned a large stake in Aviation American Gin, which sold for a reported US$610 million in 2020. Reynolds still maintains an “ongoing ownership interest” in the company.
“As co-chairmen of Wrexham AFC, we have learned a lot,” Reynolds and McElhenney said in a statement according to The Associated Press. “The connection between club and community, the intricacies of the offside rule and the occasional need for beer — especially after finance meetings.”
Reynolds and McElhenney purchased Wrexham AFC for a reported US$2.5 million in late 2020. Since then, the team has earned back-to-back promotions and currently plays in third-tier League One.

Wrexham has become known globally as Reynolds and McElhenney produced and appeared in the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries.
Financial details for the Wrexham Lager deal haven’t been disclosed, but according to AP, the brewery said the acquisition was made by Red Dragon Ventures, a joint venture formed by Reynolds and McElhenney and the New York-based Allyn family — which on Wednesday also became a minority investor in Wrexham’s soccer team.
Wrexham Lager, which is one of the team’s sponsors, was founded in 1882 and says it’s the oldest British lager brewery still in existence.
The venture was announced in a funny, of course, video posted by PEOPLE of Reynolds and McElhenney, using 1882 Morse code technology.
“We’re now proud co-owners of Wrexham Lager,” types Reynolds.

In a joint statement shared with PEOPLE, the actors said: “Wrexham Lager was enjoyed by the passengers of the Titanic. Soon it will be enjoyed by everyone.”
“What does it taste like? Imagine the taste of two movie stars flirting, dancing and carriage-sexing with an iceberg cold finish akin to being dropped in the ocean in an evening gown on a door made for one. It tastes like that. With a thrilling side of diamond heist.”
Currently Wrexham Lager sells products in the U.K., Australia, Japan and Scandinavia. Distribution in the U.S. and Canada will happen in the coming months.
