Lindsay Lohan’s brand new Christmas film has finally hit Netflix, two years after her mainstream comeback in the streamer’s previous holiday hit, Falling for Christmas.
The Mean Girl star is thrown into more seasonal romantic chaos when her character Avery is forced to spend Christmas with her ex-boyfriend Logan (Ian Harding).
When the former flames discover their current partners are siblings, they have to spend a dysfunctional holiday together while hiding their romantic history – but could they eventually rekindle their affections?
Our Little Secret is available to stream from today (November 27) and could be the perfect cinematic treat for the run-up to the holidays.
Fans all seem to agree that the film’s quirky premise and likeable supporting cast – which also includes Wicked on Broadway star Kristen Chenoweth, Lohan’s Mean Girl’s co-star Tim Meadows and Mission: Impossible’s Henry Czerny – make it one of the new Queen of Christmas’s best films yet.
One enthusiastic fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Proper rom com Netflix’s Our Little Secret is. I’m sat here happy and crying at the ending.
“Proper if they are the one they’ll always come back no matter where life takes you along the way you’ll always come back together. & I’m so glad FINALLY a proper old rom com!”
Fans have also been raving on the film social media platform Letterboxd, with one user writing: “Definitely the best of the three Netflix/Lindsay Lohan collaborations. Our Little Secret feels like a throwback to old school romcoms in the best sense and makes for a pretty delightful Christmas romcom.
“Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding are both really good and have great chemistry together. They play off each other very well and you’re rooting for them to end up with each other by the end.
“The stacked supporting cast is a lot of fun too with Kristen Chenoweth and Henry Czerny stealing the show.”
“How a Christmas romcom should be,” another viewer succinctly put.
And a final fan maintained: “Lindsay Lohan deserves all the rom com leads.”
Reviews from critics have been a little more mixed, unfortunately – could Lohan’s latest Netflix rom-com be a case of so bad it’s good?
Variety calls the film a “cringe-fest” and writes: “It’s mainstream fodder as downgraded camp. It’s pablum so numbing it makes you feel good.”
However, pop culture site But Why Tho? was more positive, insisting Our Little Secret is “not-so-secretly great”.
“Of the four holiday romance films Netflix has released this month, this one is the most well-rounded,” they claim. “While each one has the respective tropes they follow, Our Little Secret isn’t as obvious about the checkboxes on the list.
“Amid its slippery slope of lies, it takes unexpected twists and turns, granting the formula a fresh feeling. And because of the groundwork done from its opening animated sequence, the final romance at the end feels the most earned and realized, which should satisfy romance viewers.”
Will you be checking out the film to make up your own mind this week?
