Netflix has a new Christmas movie that needs to be added to your list of holiday classics. There are seven new holiday movies to check out on the streaming platform this year. One of them is Our Little Secret, which stars Lindsay Lohan and Pretty Little Liar’s Ian Harding.
Lohan recently attended the premiere of the film in New York, and fans all said she looked amazing. Many are happy to see her back on screen, bringing laughs and holiday cheer.
The plot follows Avery, played by Lohan, who attends the Christmas party of her current boyfriend. When she arrives, she learns that his sister brought her partner as well, who happens to be Avery’s ex Logan, played by Harding.
Avery and Logan must hide their romantic history while getting to know their new partner’s family. The night doesn’t go as planned, as they realize there may still be a spark.
Directed by Stephen Herek, the film also stars Kristin Chenoweth, Jon Rudnitsky, Judy Reyes, Henry Czerny, and Chris Parnell. There’s also a Mean Girls reunion, as Tim Meadows makes an appearance alongside Lohan.
Though it just dropped on Netflix today, the movie has received some mixed reviews so far. Several critics say it follows the same formula as many other Christmas rom-coms.
Roberto Tyler Ortiz from Loud and Clear Reviews wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: “Its nostalgic appeal and quirky touches offer moments of enjoyment, but the lack of chemistry between its leads and an over-reliance on genre tropes prevent it from becoming a standout holiday film.”
Others say the performances are what save it. Emma Kiely from Collider said: “A stiff, poorly written comedy that is somewhat saved by the performances of Lindsay Lohan, Ian Harding, and Kristin Chenoweth.”
Not everyone agrees with the dismal reflections. Sarah Musnicky of But Why Thou? A Geek Community penned: “Lindsay Lohan and Ian Harding are a match made in rom-com heaven, from which not even Kristin Chenoweth’s terrifyingly accurate matriarch can steal the thunder.”
One audience member JL said they thoroughly enjoyed the holiday film, adding it to their yearly list.
“I absolutely loved this movie! Some great laugh out loud moments. Lindsay is as charming as ever in her last movie of her Netflix deal. I loved her last two rom-coms but this was easily her best one.
“She’s really come back in full swing and looks stunning. The ensemble cast made for a lot of great moments and great chemistry amongst everybody. Ian Harding was hilarious and Kristin Chenoweth, as biting and as iconic as ever!”
